Meetings

Unless advised otherwise all meetings will be held at our Hawthorn Premises-suite 2/9 Church St Hawthorn starting at 7.30PM on the first Tuesday of every month. Visitors are wellcome.

June’s meeting report

June’s meeting was a big interactive hit with those attending participating in an interesting comparison of the perceived quality of a variety of forms of producing Standard Definition content from a variety of High Definition camcorders. Is it better to shoot in SD directly on the camera or shoot in HD and down convert at a later stage (be it on capture or in your NLE). Those that attended now have additional insight into this process than those who choose not to attend.

The meeting continued with Guy Barwood presenting the comparison results from the camera shoot out held in Feb 08. This document will be made available in the future on the AVPA web site. Keep an eye out in the members forum for information on when it is available.

Following this presentation, Guy Barwood and Geoff Costello asked a great deal of members questions about the different considerations of workflow and operations of their cameras (the EX1 and S270). This continued quite late into the night with the evening finally concluding well past 11pm (showing the level of interest in these level of products and working out the implications of deciding one way or the other).

July Meeting

At the next meeting on Tuesday the 1st of July starting at 7.30 pm Peter Corbett will talk about his recent visit to Broadcast Asia. Come and hear about beyond HD, about the formats of the future, as well as many other interesting developments. We will also be presenting a basic guide for preparing an add for broadcast and discussing the technical and regulatory requirements that you as a producer need to comply with.
